Love is All-Inclusive: A Journey Through the Teachings of David Hoffmeister and A Course in Miracles

In the vast landscape of modern spiritual literature, few resources have sparked as much introspection and transformation as A Course in Miracles (ACIM). Recently, a video shared by Living Church Ministries Utah, titled “A Course in Miracles: Love is All-Inclusive,” brought the teachings of David Hoffmeister back into the spotlight. While the specific nuances of any single video recording are unique to the moment, the core message remains a cornerstone of Hoffmeister’s interpretation of the Course: the radical, boundary-less nature of true love.

This article explores the profound implications of the phrase “Love is All-Inclusive” within the context of David Hoffmeister’s teachings and the broader philosophy of A Course in Miracles. It seeks to unpack how this concept challenges our everyday perceptions and offers a path to genuine inner peace.

The Foundation: What is A Course in Miracles?

To understand the weight of the phrase “Love is All-Inclusive,” one must first understand the vehicle delivering it. A Course in Miracles is a self-study spiritual thought system that aims to shift the student’s perception from fear to love. Unlike traditional religions that often rely on dogma or external authority, ACIM is designed as a psychological and spiritual curriculum. It posits that the world we see is a projection of our own minds, born out of a belief in separation from God.

The Course teaches that the only reality is God, who is Love. Everything else—the world of conflict, time, and space—is an illusion. The goal of the Course is not to change the world, but to change the mind that perceives the world. This shift is achieved through forgiveness, which is redefined not as condoning bad behavior, but as recognizing that the offense never truly happened because separation is not real.

David Hoffmeister and the Living Church

David Hoffmeister is a contemporary teacher who has dedicated his life to interpreting and disseminating the teachings of A Course in Miracles. Through Living Church Ministries, he has become a central figure for those seeking to apply the Course’s principles in the modern world. Hoffmeister’s approach is often characterized by its directness and its focus on the “Holy Spirit” as the inner teacher.

In his teachings, Hoffmeister frequently emphasizes that the ego—the part of the mind that believes in separation—thrives on exclusivity. The ego says, “I love you, but not him.” “I love this group, but not that one.” “I love peace, but not the war.” Hoffmeister argues that this conditional love is the root of all suffering. By contrast, the Holy Spirit’s interpretation is that love is all-inclusive. There are no exceptions.

The Radical Nature of “Love is All-Inclusive”

The title of the video, “Love is All-Inclusive,” serves as a powerful mantra for the student of the Course. In a world that categorizes people into “us” and “them,” this statement is revolutionary. It suggests that love is not a resource that runs out when given away, nor is it a feeling that depends on the behavior of the recipient.

1. The Rejection of Exceptions The ego operates on the principle of exceptions. We make exceptions to our own rules to protect our self-image. We make exceptions to love to protect our grievances. Hoffmeister teaches that if we truly believe love is all-inclusive, we cannot hold onto grievances. To hold a grievance against someone is to say, “You are outside the circle of love.” If love is truly all-inclusive, there is no “outside.” Therefore, forgiveness becomes the only logical choice.

2. Oneness and the Illusion of Separation The concept of “all-inclusive” points directly to the metaphysical truth of oneness. If God is love is all inclusive, and God is One, then all of creation is One. To attack another is to attack oneself. Hoffmeister often reminds students that the world is a dream. In a dream, the characters may seem separate, but they are all part of the same mind. Recognizing that love includes everyone, even those we perceive as enemies, dissolves the illusion of separation. It is a recognition that we are all sharing the same mind, and therefore, the same destiny.

3. Peace as the Goal When love is all-inclusive, conflict becomes impossible. Conflict requires two opposing sides. If love includes the “opposing side,” the conflict dissolves. Hoffmeister teaches that peace is not something we achieve through struggle; it is something we remember by removing the barriers of judgment. By accepting that love is all-inclusive, we stop trying to win arguments and start seeking unity.

Practical Application: Bringing the Course to Life

How does a student of A Course in Miracles apply the concept of “Love is All-Inclusive” in their daily life? It is not merely a theoretical exercise; it is a practical tool for emotional regulation and relationship healing.

In Relationships: When a conflict arises, the ego immediately seeks to justify its position. It looks for evidence that the other person is wrong. The ACIM student, guided by the principle of all-inclusive love, pauses. They ask, “Is this person outside of my love?” If the answer is no, then the grievance is an illusion. This does not mean accepting abuse or bad behavior, but it does mean refusing to let the other person’s actions dictate your inner peace. You can set boundaries without holding a grudge.

In Self-Perception: Often, we are our own harshest critics. We make exceptions to our own self-love. We think, “I am good, but I am not good enough.” Hoffmeister’s teachings encourage us to extend the all-inclusive nature of love to ourselves. We are not separate from the Source of Love. We are included in the divine plan. This realization heals the deep-seated sense of unworthiness that drives so much human anxiety.

In the World: On a societal level, the concept challenges us to look beyond political, religious, or cultural divides. It invites us to see the humanity in those with whom we disagree. It suggests that the solution to global conflict is not more force, but a deeper recognition of shared identity.

The Path to Awakening

The video from Living Church Ministries Utah serves as a reminder that the teachings of A Course in Miracles are timeless. David Hoffmeister’s interpretation brings these ancient truths into a modern context, making them accessible to those struggling with the complexities of contemporary life.

“Love is All-Inclusive” is more than a slogan; it is a declaration of reality. It is a commitment to seeing the world through the eyes of the Holy Spirit rather than the ego. It is a promise that when we let go of the need to be right, to be separate, and to be special, we find the peace that was always there.

As we navigate the challenges of our own lives, we are invited to ask ourselves: Where am I making exceptions to love? Where am I drawing lines that do not exist? By answering these questions with honesty, we align ourselves with the truth that love is the only reality. In doing so, we join the millions of others who have found that when love is all-inclusive, there is nowhere left to fear, and everything to be grateful for.

Conclusion

The message of David Hoffmeister and A Course in Miracles is ultimately one of hope. It tells us that the world we see is not the final word. It tells us that beneath the noise of the ego, there is a quiet, unshakeable love that includes everyone. By embracing the truth that love is all-inclusive, we do not just change our minds; we change our world. We wake up from the dream of separation and return to the reality of unity. This is the miracle that the Course promises, and it is a gift available to anyone willing to let go of the past and embrace the present moment of peace.
